About My Blog

Many young women are exposed to the media and how the media depicts women can be harming and/or bettering women and their mental and physical health. For example, only seeing skinny, Caucasian women on TV can be harmful to a young African American female because of lack of diversity. This could spiral into the young girl wanting to bleach her skin and develop an eating disorder. With a good amount of diversity in the media, the young girl mentioned before might see someone on TV who looks like her and she could think, “I can do that. I can be happy, confident and in love”.

Now, I don’t just mean self-image as in just body image. This includes everything from race to sexual orientation and gender representation.
